The cemetery at Workman's Creek sits on top of the mountain, and at the very top is an 8 foot monument dedicated to Jacob Stover and Sallie McGhee. There is a drawing of a pioneer man and woman on the monument and it reads:
Dedicated to Jacob Stover ca 1767-1844 Sally McGhee ca 1776-1836
Married 3-16-1788
and their children are listed as: Jacob Jr., Obediah, Henry, John, Lewis, Francis, Abraham, Susan, Sampson, and Jubal.

The following inscription is on the stone:
"Who with great faith in God lwft their homeland in Franklin Co., VA and settled here on Coal River at the mouth of Lick Run about 1815, and by word and deed set an example for their descendants to follow. We their many descendants are forever grateful to these, true pioneers for the courage they showed and the hardships they faced. It is to these grandparents of us all that we give our greatest honor and our deepest respet"

Holden McGhee was the surety for Sarah and Jacob's marriage, 1788 in Franklin Co., VA.

The above list of children omits Elijah who was in the 1815 Giles Co., VA tax list along with Jacob. There was also a Rachel Stover whose marriage to Ezekial Canterbury 13 January 1823 in Giles Co., VA. Her father was listed as Jacob Stover.

Jacob Stover can be found in the Franklin Co., VA tax records. He purchased land in Patrick Co in 1794 from Richard Tucker Maynor.

In the 1810 census Jacob in the Kanawha Co. census. He bought land on the CoalRiver in 1824 which is recored in Giles Co. VA.

In 1836 his name is listed as a member of the Coal Marsh Baptist Church.

In Logan County's census for 1830 his household has one male, 20-30; one male 60-70; and a female, age 60-70.

Fayette County's 1840 census lists his family as: one male 60-70; one female under age five; one female 5-10; one female 30-40. These females could be daughters or daughter in laws with granddaughters, or he may have remarried.

Jacob Stover was born about 1764 in Franklin Co., Va and died after 1840 on Coal River, Raleigh Co., VA. Sarah "Sallie" McGhee was born about 1767 and died 1823-24 on Coal River, Raleigh Co., VA. They were married 16 March 1788 in Franklin Co., VA.

Sarah was the daughter of James MackGhehee and Rebecca Prewitt. Jacob was the son of Henry Stover and Anna Kline.
