Jubel Stover and Mary J. Doughty

Jubel Stover was the son of Elijah Stover and Mary Scarberry. Jubel was born 11 Oct 1817 Lawrence Co., OH and died 14 Feb 1894 Guyan Twp., Gallia Co., OH. He married Mary J. Doughty born 22 Jul 1826 Elizabeth, PA and died 05 Jan 1907 Mason Co., WV.She was the daughter of Isaac and Mary Ward Scarborough.

Jubel Stover and Mary j. Doughty were married in this county March 22, 1842 and are the parents of Thirteen Children, as follows: Mary M. born 10-11-1843, resides in this county; Phoebe J., 7-14-1845, died 8-11-1847; Marinda, 11-26-1847, resides in this county; Charles 8-11-1849, died 8-22-1852; Elijah, 3-31-1851, died 8-20-1852; Rachel E., 7-18-1853, resides this county; Lewis M., 10-8-1855, resides in this county; Malinda A. 12-1-1857, resides in this county; Clarinda C. 3-2-1860, resides in Lawrence Co, OH; Sariulda C., 2-19-1862; Jubal M, 11-26-1864; Cynthia 1-1-1867; Eliza,8-12-1870. Mr. Stover, the subject of this sketch was born in Lawrence County Oh, 10-11-1817, and his wife was born in Elizabeth,PA, 7-22-1826. The father of Mr. Stover, Elijah, came to this county in 1819, when it was a wilderness, overrun with beasts, when they had to grind their corn by hand; they threshed their wheat with a flail, and a sheet, with a person at each end constituted a fanninf mill; they had to go three miles to school, which was supported by subscription; what preaching they had was conducted in private houses; the first sermon Mr. Stover heard was preached by Rev. Mr. Strait. Mr. Stover's father died 10-8-1824 and his mother Mary Scarberry Stover 6-21-1843. The parents ofd Mrs. Stover were John and Phoebe Compton Doughty, both of whom were born in PA, and both died in 1853-1836 respectively. Mr. Doughty was occupied as a boat builder, and helped to build the boats used by Commodore Perry, on Lake Erie, in the war of 1812. Mr. Stover had 2 son in laws in the late war. William Gladman served three years and veterinized, and Augustus Harless served one year. Mr. Stover is a farmer, and his farm is located in Guyan township. His address is Saundersville, Gallia Co OH.

Gallia Pioneeer Families-STOVER, Jubel - Born Lawrence Co., Ohio October 11, 1817, son of Elijah and Mary (Scarberry) Stover. Elijah came here 1819 and died October 8, 1824. Mary died June 21, 1843. Jubel married here March 22, 1842 to Mary Doughty born Elizabeth, Pa. July 22, 1826, daughter of John and Phebe (Compton)_ Doughty, both born in Penna. John died 1853 and Phebe died 1836. Jubel and mary had: Mary, Phebe, Marinda, Charles, Elijah, Rachel, Lewis, Malinda, Clarinda, Sarilda, Jubel M., Cynthia and Elza. One daughter married Wm. Gladman and another married Augustus Harless. John Doughty helped build boats for Perry on Lake Erie in 1812 war.
